TRANSPORTATION
Paul has over fifteen years of managing and designing numerous road and highway projects for both new construction and reconstruction. These designs often include geometric, cross-section, pavement, drainage, erosion control, traffic control, signage, staging and occasionally retaining wall and local utility design elements.
I94 N/S Corridor Final Design (Ryan Road Interchange), WisDOT:
As a member of Milwaukee Transportation Partners (MTP), leads a team of MTP designers to advance the 60% plan set to Final Design. The design includes multilane, metered ramps, two signalized intersections, a park and ride, and 2050 feet of Ryan Road, a six lane urban highway. Responsibilities include design of horizontal and vertical alignments, geometrics, drainage, staging, pavement markings, signage, fencing, removals, cross sections, park and ride, and incorporation of several BMPs such as rain gardens and pervious pavement. Also coordinate plat, utilities, signals, FTMS, lighting and structures done by others. Final PS&E date: 2-1-2011
CTH E (Maple Avenue) Reconstruction, Town of Delafield:
Designed the reconstruction and widening of this 2.6-mile county highway though a densely populated lake-country neighborhood. Project elements designed include geometric, cross-section, pavement, drainage, and erosion control. The challenge of the project was to maintaining character of lake community with its trees and residences closely abutting the roadway while widening the road to County standards. Also prepared Trans 207 and Chapter 30 WDNR permits.
Various Streets Resurface, City of Milwaukee, Three Party Contract:
Evaluated pavement in the field and marked up areas for base repair, designed pavement overlay and wrote Pavement Design Report, and conducted utility coordination for 2.25 miles of local road rehabilitation on W. Lapham Blvd., S. 6th St., W. Bolivar Ave., and W. Holt Ave. This was an ARRA project.
CTH F and CTH W Intersection Reconstruction, Kenosha County:
Redesigned rural highway intersection as a four-way stop with new right turn islands, complete with standard flashers and street lighting. Project elements designed include geometric, drainage, erosion control, and traffic control designs.
STH 175 Improvements for Reflection Village subdivision, Town of Richfield:
Designed a new intersection on STH 175 for this 160 lot subdivisions main entrance which included widening the highway to accommodate both left and right turning lanes. The project elements designed include geometric, cross-sections, pavement, drainage, erosion control, and traffic control designs.
CTH O Improvements for Buy Seasons office/warehouse, City of New Berlin:
Designed a new intersection on CTH O for this 40 acre distribution centers main entrance which included widening the highway to accommodate both left and right turning lanes and a by-pass lane. The project elements designed include geometric, cross-sections, drainage, erosion control, and traffic control designs.
Also managed and designed numerous local road construction and reconstruction projects. A complete project list is available upon request.
DRAINAGE
Paul has managed and designed numerous drainage projects. These designs often include both hydrology and hydraulic design elements such as drainage basin analysis, and the design of retention ponds, inlet capacity, storm sewer and culverts. Regularly design with a variety of computer software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM, HydraFlow, PondPack, HydroCad, Storm Cad, Culvert Master, and Flow Master.
Shepard Hills Detention Pond, City of Oak Creek:
Designed an on-line four-acre retention pond using PondPack and HEC-RAS, complete with wetland and upland prairie planting, to alleviate flooding both up and down stream of the pond. Permit included a complete Environmental Assessment and a NR103 wetland alternative analysis.
Draw Down Structure, Honey Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District:
Designed a draw down structure that can lower the water level in the lake lower than the existing dam. The WDNR had classified the Honey Lake Dam a significant hazard, which required thorough inspections every two years. In order to inspect the dam, the water level in the lake needed drawn down below the level of the dam. To accomplish this, a small dam (draw down structure) had to be constructed next to the main dam. The project elements designed include a hydraulic analysis using PondPack and the structural design of the pour-in-place structure.
Puetz Road Drainage Improvements, City of Oak Creek:
Evaluated several alternatives using HEC-1 and HEC-RAS for alleviating the flooding of the street and around homes, including splitting flows on each side of the street and rerouting storm sewers. The final alternative was designed and Chapter 30 permits acquired.
S. 15th Avenue Drainage Improvements, City of Oak Creek:
Evaluated several alternatives for alleviating the flooding of the street and around homes, diverting high flows around the problem area while allowing the streams base flow to continue to flow down the existing channel using HEC-1 and HEC-RAS. The final alternative was designed and Chapter 30 permit acquired.
Town Hall Site Plan, Town of Salem:
Designed the grading plan to include the storm water management plan for the Town Hall expansion. Storm water management plan was developed using PondPack, which includes a perimeter swale leading to a dry detention basin and sedimentation basin.
Also designed numerous street storm sewer and culvert projects. A complete project list is available upon request.
